The bill for a new Law on Forests includes lobbyist amendments against the Bulgarian protected natureSofia, 14 July 2010 – The coalition of NGOs and civil society groups “For the Nature” sent a position on the bill for a new Law on forests made available for public discussion on the webpage of the Executive Forest Agency on 9 July 2010.

Despite the fact that some of the previous proposals of the NGO coalition have been adopted, a number of dangerous ideas that threaten the Bulgarian protected natural areas have also sneaked into the text.

In National Park Pirin tree felling for the illegal construction of a new lift in the Bansko ski zone has startedSofia, 12 July 2010 – Volunteers from the coalition of 30 non-governmental organizations and civil society groups “For the Nature” ascertained today that the illegal expansion of the cutting area of an already-existing lift from Bunderishka Poliana to Kolarski Put in the Bansko ski zone in National Park Pirin had already started. With a decision from 24 June 2010, the Ministry of Environment and Water (MEW) permitted the substitution of the lift with a new one with three times the capacity of the old lift without the mandatory environmental impact assessment (EIA) and without an assessment of compatibility with the European environmental network NATURA 2000, a part of which is Pirin.

Eco-Minister Nona Karadjova permits the illegal expansion of the Bansko ski-zoneSofia, 8 July 2010 – the coalition of 30 non-governmental organizations and civil society groups “Let Nature Remain in Bulgaria” appeals the decision of the Minister of Environment and Water, Nona Karadjova to permit the substitution of one of the first lifts in the Basko ski zone in National Park Pirin with a new one with 3 times the capacity of the old lift, without the mandatory environmental impact assessment (EIA) and an assessment of the project impact on the two protected zones of the NATURA 2000
network for the birds and natural habitats, which coincide with National Park Pirin.
