Sofia, 12 July 2010 – Volunteers from the coalition of 30 non-governmental organizations and civil society groups “For the Nature” ascertained today that the illegal expansion of the cutting area of an already-existing lift from Bunderishka Poliana to Kolarski Put in the Bansko ski zone in National Park Pirin had already started. With a decision from 24 June 2010, the Ministry of Environment and Water (MEW) permitted the substitution of the lift with a new one with three times the capacity of the old lift without the mandatory environmental impact assessment (EIA) and without an assessment of compatibility with the European environmental network NATURA 2000, a part of which is Pirin.

James David Bourchier is an Irish reporter and public and political figure who was born in Ireland in 1850. He studied in Dublin and later on in King's College, Cambridge. He was a longstanding correspondent for the Times newspaper on the Balkans living in Sofia from 1892 to 1919.
