What’s the problem with the “green” golf courses? They are not concrete structures, but green landscape?

In order to build a golf course the entire top layer of soil must be completely removed so the artificial grass can be placed. This way the natural landscape, the flora and fauna disappear and that destroys the entire biological diversity in the area. For the imported sort of grass to grow, it must get regular treatments of herbicides, pesticides, fungicides and to be fresh it must be watered around the clock. This could prove to be a big issue in areas low on drinking water like Dobrudzha and Razlog Valley, where there are big projects for new gold courses. Golf is not a popular sport in Bulgaria. We think it is better if the country encouraged what we Bulgarians are famous with – our cultural and historical heritage and our nature. Developing golf tourism is not an alternative to mass-construction because essentially it is not different. Most golf courses are closed facilities, from which local people can benefit only partially and short-term from the possible sale of their lands. After the complexes are built opportunities for employment will be only for low-skilled positions, and in many cases the environment and landscape, from which local businesses and guest houses profit, will be destroyed.
