Volunteers of Green Balkans and National Organization of Bulgarian Scouts carried out a joint action for the planting of more than 100 poplars and willows close to the greatest heron colony in the interior – near the village of Konush, Assenovgrad.
Due to big concentration of protected birds of the heron family the region of Konush Dam is declared a protected locality in which Green Balkans carries out regular monitoring and protection. This year during the generative season there have been counted more than 500 nesting couples which is a good indicator for the condition of the colony. Not so good is the condition of the trees on which the birds are concentrating in spring and summer. This makes necessary the regular planting of new trees which the birds can use during the years to come.
